WHERE IS LUMBY?

WHERE IS LUMBY?

Lumby’s a little Village located at the gateway to the Monashee Mountains of British Columbia.  You can reach it from Vernon, B.C. via Highway 6  https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/My+location/Lumby,+British+Columbia/data=!4m6!4m5!1m0!1m2!1m1!1s0x537dd3cd2f93148d:0xcd224383fce0f360!3e0

Have you seen our website?  www.lumbymarket.com.  It’s so cool, it has a countdown to the Butter Tart Festival & Contest!  You can also get information about the Festival, and print off application forms for both vendors and for those folks who want to enter the “Best Homemade Butter Tart” contest.  I notice a fair number of butter tarts are already appearing on vendors’ tables, you might want to check a few out before the big event on September 9th.

The Lumby Public Market Society is a non-profit organization and community is very important to us.  This year at the Festival we’re happy to have the Lumby & District Health Services Society, North Okanagan Gleaners, the Lumby Museum, and Sacred Heart Church at the Festival grounds offering tarts and other baked goods as part of their fundraising activities.  And, both the Monashee Co-op and the Lumby United Church will be doing the same, but at their own locations.  With Ida’s Bakery and Jitter Beans getting into the fun, we’ll soon have the makings of a butter tart tour of Lumby.  Mustn’t forget the Monashee Arts Council sale of gently used arts & crafts supplies/equipment that’s being held at the same time at the Village Gallery.

It’s pretty easy to find things in Lumby, we only have one red light and it’s a four-way stop at the intersection of Highway 6 and Shuswap Avenue.  So, upon entering the Village from Vernon, one of the first Butter Tart Sites you’ll see is Lumby United Church, it’ll be to your left – across from the (only)

Lumby Butter Tart Bakers

Shell station.  Proceed to the four way red light, now here you’ll have to make a choice.  Should you go left on Shuswap and follow the signs to the main Festival site, or turn right and check out the organic butter tarts on offer from the Monashee Co-Op, a farmer’s and producers co-op and seller of organic products?  Now you could go straight and you’ll pass by Ida’s Bakery (home of one of last year’s award-winning bakers) and Jitter Beans Coffee House (they make a mean butter tart,) but I wouldn’t advise lingering over a fresh cuppa if you want to witness the judging of the Butter Tarts, or buy some to take home. The judging starts at 9 am sharp, and the Butter Tarts for sale go fast – unless you’ve used our online order form, then you can just sashay over and pick them up from your favourite non-profit organization.

Judges: Rick Fairbairn, Kim Hutton, Ken Ingram, Judy Phillips

IT’S BACK! 2017 B.C. BUTTER TART FESTIVAL

IT’S BACK! 2017 B.C. BUTTER TART FESTIVAL

July 14, 2017, for immediate release

LUMBY BUTTER TART FESTIVAL & CONTEST, SEPTEMBER 9

It’s back! For the third year in a row, the B.C. Butter Tart Festival will be held in Lumby’s Whitevalley Community Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 9th.

The theme for the 2017 Festival is “Oh Canada!”  an homage to our great country and its extraordinary cuisine.

There‘ll be lots of vendors selling scrumptious traditional and non-traditional tarts. This year, area charitable and non-profit organizations are invited to join us – the Festival is a cost-effective fund-raising opportunity.

And – great news – the butter tart contest has been simplified. Entries will be limited to homemade butter tarts and shells.  One bold baker is promising Scapes and Bacon tarts – yum!

Vendor Registration for the Market is now open. Forms are available online at www.lumbymarket.com, by e-mail at lumbypublicmarket@gmail.com,
