RAINDROPS ON BUTTER TARTS
The 3rd Annual Lumby Butter Tart Festival was truly blessed by the arrival of rain. While a few of us got a little wet, there was no denying the sense of relief and sheer joy as a gentle shower turned into a much more robust rain. Even the Park crows were in a celebratory mood!
This Festival gets bigger and better every year, this year we had 16 vendors selling butter tarts and every one of them was busy until the Market closed. No shortages this year, but no great surpluses either. Absolutely perfect. There were so many people involved from the Community and I have to thank the following for their assistance and involvement:
Regional District of North Okanagan; the Village of Lumby Parks & Recreation Department
Lumby Chamber of Commerce; all the Lumby merchants who put up posters
All our volunteers with a special nod to the Community Pride Program young people
Whitevalley Community Resource Centre; Whitevalley Community Centre
Lumby Valley Times; 107.5KISS FM; Vernon Morningstar; Global TV
Rogers Foods Ltd. for sponsoring the Butter Tart Contest again this year
Contest judges
All the entrants in the Best Butter Tart Contest;
All the wonderful vendors who offered everything from Mexican Food for hungry humans to butter tarts for pets
to massages for harried Festival goers
Gold Fox Acres for bringing out the adorable animals of the petting zoo
The charitable organizations whose members mixed and rolled, filled and baked hundreds of butter tarts to raise funds for their worthwhile projects
The family of Market vendors of the Lumby Public Market who brought butter tarts, jewellery, purses, artwork, crocheted and quilted products, flowers, vegetables, fruits, household products and so much more to this special version of our regular Saturday Market
All the Community organizations that joined in the fun by offering their own special events in concert with the Festival
Bruce for taking all those wonderful pictures, which you can see on our website soon
Around the Block Lumby for its support and for posting our many messages
People who came from all over the Okanagan to visit our Village, our Festival and share the wonder of the rain
If I’ve missed anyone, I’m sincerely sorry but you know that your contributions and faith in the growth of the Butter Tart Festival is hugely appreciated
DIDN’T GET ENOUGH BUTTER TARTS LAST WEEK? Check it out, this week the Lumby United Church will be offering coffee and butter tarts at the Market and Sharlene’s jolly crew will be back selling even more of their very special butter tarts. See you at the Market, Saturday 9am-1pm as usual.
